Kamokila Boulevard Extension Opens
Roadway provides new east-west route around Kapolei
Motorists now have another route in and out of Kapolei with the opening of the Kamokila Boulevard Extension. This joint project of Kapolei Property Development and the City & County of Honolulu extends Kamokila Boulevard from Kapolei Parkway to Roosevelt Avenue.
"The extension is another fine example of how public-private partnerships can work to move important infrastructure projects forward in a timely manner," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann. "As we face difficult times ahead, infrastructure improvements will continue to be a priority for my administration."
"Our partnership with the City & County of Honolulu has been an important component in expediting this extension," said Dave Rae, the company's senior vice president.
"This level of cooperation has made it possible for us to fast track an important roadway that will greatly improve traffic flow in and around Kapolei."
Kalaeloa Boulevard Intersection is complete
Work on the Kalaeloa Boulevard and Kapolei Parkway intersection is complete, with multiple new lanes from all directions now open, further improving the flow of traffic.
Drivers heading toward Kapolei can now make left turns on the two new dedicated left-turn lanes from Kalaeloa Boulevard makai-bound onto Kapolei Parkway.
Meanwhile, work continues on Kalaeloa Boulevard near the railroad tracks. While two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained, motorists can expect changes to traffic flow, and should drive slowly through the construction area. The entire first phase of the Kalaeloa Boulevard Improvement project is expected to be completed by the end of March.
