Look who's doing business in Kapolei

Despite the ailing economy, Costco, Target and other shops at the new Kapolei Commons Shopping Center opened in recent weeks to record opening-day sales - affirming the fact that Kapolei is a large and still growing market for businesses. These retail businesses have brought approximately 730 new jobs to Kapolei.

Less well known is the fact that the number of professional jobs is also expanding in Kapolei. The existing office buildings have high occupancy rates - with Campbell Square at 95 percent occupancy and Bank of Hawaii at 100 percent occupancy.

Kapolei Hale, The City & County of Honolulu's office building, is now bursting at the seams with 220 employees and the City Auditor's office has had to move into the Campbell Square complex. "We moved to allow the Mayor to better utilize Kapolei for his expanding services in Kapolei," said City Auditor Leslie Tanaka.

Aside from Bank of Hawaii's offices and call center, the Bank of Hawaii building in Kapolei is also home to several large companies such as TD Food Group (Pizza Hut/Taco Bell) with 140 employees, HMSA and Grace Pacific Corporation.

Coming to Kapolei
The Kapolei Court Complex, which is under construction, will be the next major government facility in Kapolei, with its opening planned for 2010. A number of office projects are in the planning stages including Avalon Development Company's Kapolei Pacific Center, the Kapolei Credit Union Plaza by Aloha Pacific Credit Union, the Maryl Group office complex, and the recently announced Haumea Tech Center by L.A. Anuenue.
